Achnasheen is situated at a fork in the road - the main road connecting the east (Inverness) with Kyle of Lochalsh (and the Isle of Skye), and a smaller road branching off to the northwest into the heart of Wester Ross. Achnasheen has a post office, a few shops, two hotels, a filling station and above all: a railway station! The railway mostly follows the road between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh; there are two or three services daily, and the westward line is renowned for its grand views and interesting railway station buildings.
